چکیده

Continuous Galerkin Petrov time discretization scheme is tested on some Hamiltonian systems including simple harmonic oscillator, Kepler’s problem with different eccentricities and molecular dynamics problem. In particular, we implement the fourth order Continuous Galerkin Petrov time discretization scheme and analyze numerically, the efficiency and conservation of Hamiltonian. A numerical comparison with some symplectic methods including Gauss implicit Runge-Kutta method and general linear method of same order is given for these systems. It is shown that the above mentioned scheme, not only preserves Hamiltonian but also uses the least CPU time compared with up to-date and optimized methods.

A Petrov–Galerkin method for integro-differential equations with a memory term

We investigate the numerical solution of an integro-differential equation with a memory term. For the time discretization we apply the continuous Petrov–Galerkin method considered by Lin et al. [SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 38, 2000]. We combined the Petrov–Galerkin scheme with respect to time with continuous finite elements for the space discretization and obtained a fully discrete scheme. We show op...

On the Comparison of Evolution Galerkin and Discontinuous Galerkin Schemes

The aim of this paper is to compare some recent numerical schemes for solving hyperbolic conservation laws. We consider the flux vector splitting finite volume methods, finite volume evolution Galerkin scheme as well as the discontinuous Galerkin scheme. All schemes are constructed using time explicit discretization. We present results of numerical experiments for the shallow water equations fo...

A Posteriori Error Estimation for the Fractional Step Theta Discretization of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

In this work, we derive a goal-oriented a posteriori error estimator for the error due to time discretization. As time discretization scheme we consider the fractional step theta method, that consists of three subsequent steps of the one-step theta method. In every sub-step, the full incompressible system has to be solved (in contrast to time integrators of operator splitting type). The resulti...

Nonlinear Cable equation, Fractional differential equation, Radial point interpolation method, Meshless local Petrov – Galerkin, Stability analysis

The cable equation is one the most fundamental mathematical models in the neuroscience, which describes the electro-diffusion of ions in denderits. New findings indicate that the standard cable equation is inadequate for describing the process of electro-diffusion of ions. So, recently, the cable model has been modified based on the theory of fractional calculus. In this paper, the two dimensio...

Multisymplecticity of hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin methods

In this paper, we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for a hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) method to satisfy a multisymplectic conservation law, when applied to a canonical Hamiltonian system of partial differential equations. We show that these conditions are satisfied by the “hybridized” versions of several of the most commonly-used finite element methods, including mixed, no...
